My Experience on the ‘Sembang Science’ Trip to Kuala Lumpur

Day 1 (Friday, 2 July 2010)

All the students participating in the BP MyScience Competition including my friends and I, gathered at Stadium Kuantan at 7.30 am to go an educational trip called ‘Sembang Sains’. At eight o’clock we set off for KL. We made a stop at Genting Sempah for snack. After about another 2 hours of traveling, we finally arrived at KLCC. We ate our lunch there as well. After eating, we went straight to Petrosains for a visit. It was very interesting. I learnt many things such as there are three kinds of rocks called the “Obsidian”, “Fossiliferous Limestone” and “Gneiss”. I also learnt why some areas off-shore peninsular Malaysia are rich in petroleum? The answer is:

“Because at one time, when sea levels were lower than they are today, these areas were continental lakes and shallow seas that collected the organically rich sediment that later formed petroleum.”

I also learnt that pumps are widely used in obtaining petroleum and to transfer fluids through pipelines. Alas, we didn’t have much time to look at everything!

After we registered, we ate dinner. Later that evening, BP staff performed a dance. They also taught us how to make ice-cream using chocolate, ice and salt. Later, we managed to make cold and delicious ice-cream.

Day 2 (Saturday, 3 July 2010)
The next day, we woke up at 6:00 in the morning. For those two days I did not manage to take a bath as the schedule was tight. Now I can laugh about it, but think about how we will feel if we don’t bathe for a week! This is why we must save water. Remember that every single drop of water is precious. Then, we had our breakfast and kept our sleeping bags. Next, we went to Planetarium Negara. We saw many things there too. After that, we went to Pusat Sains Negara to eat our lunch and watch a show. At 3:00 pm, we left for Kuantan. We had a stop at Genting Sempah again but this time we ate at Mcdonalds. We arrived at Kuantan at about 7:30 pm. I am very glad to have gone for this trip. It was not only fun but also I got to learn a lot of things.
